BI joins Facebook and Twitter
AUGUST 6, 2012

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is now on Facebook and Twitter.

Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. disclosed that he recently issued a memorandum ordered instructing the BI’s information and communications technology section (ICTS) to open the bureau’s account at the two most popular social media networking sites.

David said that in joining the social media, the public would gain additional and easy access to information about the BI’s programs, activities and services.

“It will also enable us to receive feedbacks from the public to help us improve our services,” the BI chief added.

Lawyer Ma. Antonette Mangrobang, BI spokesperson, said the bureau’s Facebook fan page can be accessed at https://facebook.com/OfficialBureauofImmigration while its Twitter account is on https://twitter.com/immigrationPH.

According to Mangrobang, the two social network accounts are administered and maintained by the BI national operations center, or BINOC.

She explained that any and all contents and updates posted and uploaded to these accounts shall first be approved either by David or BI Associate Commissioner Siegfred Mison, who is in charge of the ICTS.

Mangrobang added that she, being the bureau spokesperson, and BINOC head Rodolfo Gino are also authorized to approve the posting and uploading of information to the said websites.

Previously, information about the bureau’s services, policies and programs could only be accessed at its official website at www.immigration.gov.ph.

With its entry into the social media, the BI has utilized a web-based technology that enables it to engage in interactive dialogue with its clientele, stakeholders, and other organizations and individuals from the government and private sectors.###
