Job applicants swarm BI
OCTOBER 10, 2012

Job applicants have swamped the Bureau of Immigration (BI) after it announced that it was hiring 200 new immigration officers (IOs) who will be deployed to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and other ports of entry.

BI Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. disclosed that more than 3,000 individuals are expected to take the qualifying examinations of applicants for the new posts that will be held on Oct. 24 in Manila and eight other venues nationwide.

David said the bureau is still accepting applications for the 200 Immigration Officer I posts created recently by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

It was David who sought the DBM’s approval for authority to hire the new employees to address the BI’s perennial problem of manpower lack at the NAIA and other airports.

Five illegal Indians nabbed in Zambo
OCTOBER 05, 2012

Immigration officials in Zamboanga City arrested and detained the other day (Oct. 2) five illegal Indian nationals who attempted to sneak into the country via the southern backdoor.

Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. said the aliens were arrested Monday afternoon after police interceped them at the Zamboanga airport upon their arrival from Tawi-Tawi.

David said the Indians were turned over to BI-Zamboanga officials as they did not have passports or visas and instead presented alien employment permits (AEPs) from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) that turned out to be fake.

The said AEPs were glaringly spurious as the signatory on the documents is not Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz but Arturo Brion, former DOLE head who is now a Supreme Court justice.

David said it was the second time this year that Budget Secretary Florencio Abad had approved his request for additional posts of Immigration Officer I in the BI plantilla.

He added that notices inviting interested applicants for the job will soon be published in the newspapers and website.  The DBM had earlier authorized the BI to hire new 100 immigration officers.
