BI opens office at SM-North |

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) opens today (Thursday, Dec. 20) its new satellite office at the SM shopping mall in North Edsa, Quezon City in line with the agency’s thrust to bring its services closer to its clientele. BI Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. said the new office was established to give foreigners based in Quezon City and Camanava ( Caloocan , Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela) an alternative and convenient venue for processing their immigration requirements. “They no longer have to travel to our main office in Manila as there is now an immigration office near their place where they file their application for visa extension and other immigration documents,” David said. The new office, manned by a team of seven BI employees headed by immigration officer Lina Pelia, is situated at the third floor of the Northlink building of the SM mall complex. |

BI to deport US pedophile |

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is poised to deport an American pedophile wanted by authorities in the US for engaging in child pornography. BI Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. said Kenneth Gatlord Stokes, 68, will be expelled following his arrest in Cebu City last Dec. 3 by operatives from the bureau’s fugitive search unit. He was arrested on the strength of a warrant of deportation issued by David pursuant to a summary deportation that was issued against him by the BI board of commissioners last Nov. 28. David said the American was already an undocumented alien when arrested as his passport was already revoked by the US State Department. |

Singaporean trafficker nabbed at NAIA |

Immigration agents at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) arrested a Singaporean suspected of being a courier for a human trafficking syndicate that provides fake Philippine passports to Chinese nationals who want to travel to the Philippines. Bureau of Immigration (BI) said the Singaporean and his Chinese victim were intercepted at the NAIA 3 terminal last Dec. 12 when the duo arrived a Cebu Pacific flight from Macau. The Singaporean was identified as Law Suang See, 33, while his Chinese companion is Jianhuang Guo, 37. Both are presently detained at the immigration jail in Bicutan, Taguig pending deportation proceedings. |

BI to deport Jap wanted for faking car accident |

Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents arrested in Cebu a Japanese national wanted by authorities in his country for insurance fraud. BI Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. said Koichi Sato, 47, was arrested last Dec. 7 at his rented house in Barantgay Dumlog, Talisay City, Cebu. Elements of the BI fugitive search unit arrested Sato on the strength of a mission order that David issued at the request of the Interpol and the Japanese embassy in Manila. David said the fugitive will be deported as soon as the BI board of commissioners issues the order for his summary deportation. |

BI launches new alien registration scheme |

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has launched a project that will enable foreigners to make their annual report and register with the agency without personally appearing at the BI headquarters in Intramuros, Manila. Instead, teams of BI personnel will be deployed in the field and dispatch to places where the foreigners are based, such as their workplaces, associations and residences. Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. said the project, dubbed “Alien Registration and Reporting on Wheels (ARROW), will make it easier and convenient for aliens to pay their annual report fees and to register and obtain their identity card or ACR I-Card. Under the alien registration act, all foreigners who are holders of immigrant and non-immigrant visas should register with the BI and get their alien certificate of registration (ACR).
