5 Korea-bound Pinay entertainers held at NAIA
FEBRUARY 06 , 2013

Immigration officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) stumbled upon a human trafficking scheme that deploys undocumented Filipina entertainers to South Korea.

Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. said the illegal activity was uncovered after five Filipinas bound for Seoul were intercepted last week at the departure area of the NAIA 2 terminal and prevented from leaving the country.

David said the women were about to board a Philippine Airlines flight to Hongkong when they were invited for secondary inspection by members of the BI travel control and enforcement unit after they were profiled as tourist workers.

The women initially insisted that they were tourists who would be vacationing in Hongkong but upon thorough questioning they finally admitted that their destination is South Korea to work.

Aliens warned vs fake visa extensions
FEBRUARY 01, 2013

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has warned departing foreigners against faking visa extensions or they will be jailed and banned from re-entering the country if they are caught.

Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. issued the warning after the recent arrest of two foreigners who were recently arrested and barred from leaving the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for having spurious visa extensions on their passports.

According to David, immigration officers have been instructed to closely examine the visa extensions on the passports of departing foreigners to ensure that these are authentic and not the handiwork of visa fraud syndicates.

“So there is a very slim chance that these fake extensions will not be detected,” the BI chief said, as he decried that the practice, aside from being illegal, deprives the government of much needed revenues.
