American who bolted BI-Davao jail recaptured

            The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced the re-arrest of an Indonesian-American who bolted his detention cell at the bureau’s field office in Davao City recently, it was learned yesterday.
 
                        Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. disclosed that Tigor Hasongan Siapanar is now in the bureau’s detention jail in the city following his arrest last Thursday night by joint operatives of the BI and Davao City police.
 
                        David said Siapanar did not resist arrest when the arresting officers raided his safehouse in Madagascar Street, St. Vincent Heights, Mamay Road, Davao City.

BI deports 4 Taiwanese fugitives

            The Bureau of Immigration (BI) deported four Taiwanese fugitives wanted by authorities in Taipei for serious crimes, it was learned yesterday.
 
            Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. said the aliens fugitives were deported aboard a China Airlines flight to Taipei that left the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Thurday morning.
 
                        “We had to deport them immediately because they are subject of an outstanding arrest warrants issued by various prosecutor’s offices in Taiwan ,” David said.

David relieves BI exec after American bolts Davao immigration jail

            Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. relieved the head of the bureau’s field office in Davao City in connection with the recent escape of a detained American national, it was learned yesterday.
 
           David designated lawyer Nimfa Edroso as acting alien control officer of Davao , vice Maria Kiamco who was reassigned to her mother unit at the BI’s immigration regulation division in Manila .
 
David said Kiamco was relieved pending results of the investigation into the escape of Tigor Hasongan Siapanar, an American of Indonesian descent, who bolted his detention cell last Oct. 17.

BI to put up foreigners’ desk in Camiguin

            The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced today that is putting up an immigration booth in Camiguin Island when the province celebrates its annual Lanzones Festival next week.
 
            Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. said a team of BI officials will travel to Camiguin and man the booth which will serve as a one-stop shop for foreign tourists who will be visiting the island during the festival.
 
            David said that aside from providing visa extension services, the one-stop shop will also entertain queries and disseminate information about the various services provided by the BI to foreigners visiting the country.

In exchange for releasing arrested Indian illegal aliens in Davao

            Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. praised intelligence agents for not succumbing to ‘easy money’ after they arrest an Indian national who attempted to bribe them in exchange for the release of two of his compatriots from the immigration jail in Davao City.
 
            In his speech after awarding the certificates of commendation last Monday, David urged immigration officers and agents to stick to the straight path policy of the Aquino government and not to accept financial considerations in exchange of performing their jobs.
 
            The BI chief gave the certification to immigration agents led by detailed Army Lt. Col. Efrain Oropel, technical assistant for intelligence.
 
             David also disclosed that a team of intelligence agents led by Oropel arrested Sukhdarshan Singh, 35 years old, in an entrapment operation at the Victoria Plaza Mall along J.P. Laurel Ave. in Davao City last Oct. 3.
