BI automates offices nationwide

            The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced that its project to automate the visa application and payment system in all of its field and satellite offices nationwide is nearly complete, thus bolstering the agency’s campaign to cut red tape and improve its services.
 
            BI Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. disclosed that transactions in 34 of the 45 BIoffices throughout the country are now implementing the consolidated assessment and payment sytem for all visa applications and other frontline services of the agency.
 
            The BI main office started implementing the system in July last year and it was credited for facilitating the fast and efficient flow of transactions at the agency’s headquarters in Intramuros, Manila.
 
            Aside from visa applications, the filing and assessment and payment of fees for tourist visa extensions; student visa and study permits; dual citizenship and recognition; and immigration clearances and certificates are also automated.

Kuwaiti pedophile nabbed at NAIA

            Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents arrested a Kuwaiti national who is on the agency’s lookout list of wanted aliens for sexually abusing a Filipina girl.
 
            BI Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. said Ismail Hussain Nazar, 52, was arrested last May 13 at the immigration arrival area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
 
            David said Nazar had just arrived aboard a Kuwaiti Airlines flight when he was intercepted by members of the BI travel control and enforcement unit at the airport.
 
            He was later turned over to agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) who served him an arrest warrant issued by the regional trial court in Angeles City , Pampanga.

NAIA-BI men arrest 2 fake Sino tourists

            Immigration officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) arrested two Chinese nationals for being “fake” tourists.
 
            Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. ordered the detention of Wen Shiyuan, 28, and Shi Qingda, 54, hours after they arrived aboard a Philippine Airlines flight from Xiamen, China.
 
            David ordered the aliens’ inclusion in the immigration blacklist to prevent them from returning to the Philippines.
 
            They will remain detained at the BI jail in Bicutan, Taguig pending conduct of further investigation and exclusion proceedings.

BI agents nab 8 aliens for working sans permit

            Intelligence operatives of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested in Batangas eight foreigners for working in the country without permits.
 
            Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. disclosed that the aliens were apprehended last April 30 when the BI agents swooped down on their garments factory in Bgy. San Miguel, Sto. Tomas, Batangas.
 
            David said the aliens, comprised of five Koreans and three Chinese nationals, were caught in flagrante working at the factory of the Eunhye Apparel.
 
           The business was allegedly managed by Kim Joo Ree, one of the Koreans arrested, who was about to pay the month-end salary of the factory workers when the arresting agents entered her office.

BI passes anti-red tape test

            The Bureau of Immigration (BI) passed with flying colors a test conducted by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) on the agency’s campaign against red tape.
 
            BI Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. said the results of the CSC survey last month showed that the bureau’s main office in Manila obtained a final numerical rating of 87.54 percent with a descriptive rating of “good.”
 
            The CSC survey focused on the BI’s frontline services delivery, service quality, physical working condition, and overall client satisfaction.
 
            “For an agency that for years was always on the list of government agencies notorious for red tape, this is a welcome development that will boost the morale of our employees and inspire us to further improve our services to the transacting public,” David said.
