BI bans ‘honest’ Australian |

For being too honest about his criminal record, an Australian national was banned from entering the country by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) for admitting that he had been charged with sex offenses in his country.
Rodney Le Fevre was placed in the BI blacklist last Monday on orders of Immigration Commissioner Marcelino Libanan after he was informed that the Australian had applied for but was denied a visa with the Philippine embassy in Australia . |

BI decentralization program in full swing |

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) moved another step in its drive to decentralize with the designation of several officials who will oversee the agency’s operations in Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
BI Commissioner Marcelino Libanan signed a personnel order designating the BI’s chiefs of the immigration regulation division (IRD), alien registration division (ARD) and intelligence division as overall immigration area directors for Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, respectively. |

New immigration bill to make RP a top tourist, investment destination-solons |

Two lawmakers yesterday said that the proposed new immigration act pending in Congress will make the Philippines as the top tourist and investment destinations in Southeast Asia.
In a separate interviews, Quezon City Rep. Mat Defensor and Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez said the bill, if passed will make the country more attractive to foreign tourists and investors and thus help spur economic development and generate jobs for Filipinos. |

BI employees support new immigration bill |

More than 500 officials and employees of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reiterated their support to the proposed new immigration bill pending before the both houses of Congress.
In a position paper spearheaded by the officers and members of the Buklod ng mga Kawani ng CID (Buklod), the employees manifested and declared their wholehearted support to the proposed Philippine Immigration Act of 2009. |

DOJ chief supports new immigration bill |

Justice Secretary Agnes Devanadera said today that she fully supports the passage of a new Philippine immigration act, contrary to news reports that she does not.
In a press statement, Devanadera stressed that it was she who recommended to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to certify as urgent House Bill 6568 and Senate Bill 3404, or the Philippine Immigration Act of 2009, now pending in Congress. |
